Why he does this work

Every week, Dr Khan sits with patients and families at the hardest moment of their lives. Again and again he saw the same thing: fear, confusion, and cancers that might have been prevented or caught earlier — if only clear information had reached people sooner.

So alongside his NHS practice and his trial work, he writes and campaigns on cancer prevention and medical misinformation, including for The European. He is the author of You'll Wish You Were an Elephant: Killing Cancer Kindly — a title that nods to elephants' famously low cancer rates, and the science of why.

Prevention should be as respected as cure, which means walking beside people and starting long before cancer ever does.

That conviction became Killing Cancer Kindly: a charity built to make prevention as respected as cure, and to meet people with hope rather than fear.
